C-Jeff – Preschtale

Coming from Mother Russia is Virgil Donati and Derek Sherinian playing with old video gaming systems.

Chiptune, 8-bit, electronica, progressive, and a heavy dose of groove is what characterizes the artist. Melodies, riffs, solos, ambiances are all absolutely mindblowing.

Seriously, it’s like an 8-bit Planet X record, which says a lot about the talent of Dmitry Zhemkov, who is the one behind most of this!

If you have the slightest appreciation for music, you will absolutely fall in love with this amazing album. And I’m at a lack of words for it. It’s just… perfect!

THREE WINTERS – The Atrocities EP

ImageNorwegian group THREE WINTERS have just unleased their new “The Atrocities EP” through the multi-faceted ‘Post Avantgarde Pop’ Swedish label Beläten. 8-bit metal special!

Do you remember the time when video games had awfully ugly graphics, and music of the worst quality possible, but still providing us with memorable musics; as in Super Mario Bros., Castlevania, Megaman…

Some musicians today want to revive this era, for your musical pleasure.

Unraveller

8 bit melodic instruments backed with programmed drums will probably make you raise an eyebrow. Such quality-crushed instruments with a such good sounding drum is indeed rather bizarre, but given the harshness of 8-bit drums, we can forgive, and gladly accept it.

Kinship Synthesis is full of melodies that would fit like a glove … Read more

The Algorithm – Polymorphic Code

United Kingdom seems to bombard us all with heavy as balls djent. And everytime it has something special, out of the ordinary.

Last time, it was Hacktivist with their rappers throwing 100 words per second at us.

Now, The Algorithm connects us to the Matrix, uploads us to Mainframe, and makes us travel in the electron flow of a circuit board with their progressive technical metal figuratively bathed in electronic music.

Polymorphic Code makes me sad, however. Sad that I was not the one to write that outstanding record. Sad and angry, in fact.

On the other hand, I … Read more

Limit Zero – Gravestone Constellations

India’s an intriguing country when it comes to music.

To one side, there is those who make truly outstanding music, like Amogh Symphony, but to the other side, there are 200 Indian elephants’ weight worth of shitty bands that either try to copy old school Megadeth and Metallica or are just being bad.

Limit Zero, of course, is on the right side of the balance (actually the left one, if we all read the above paragraph from left to right).

Their album Gravestone Constellations show their progressive metal style well, with a dip in more modern subgenres like djent or … Read more
