Itzamna – Metnal

D’you like jazz? Of course you do! D’you like metal? Of course you do! Itzamna is all about that! France sure has some awesome music to send us, and we gladly accept another newcomer in our music gallery!

Instead of taking djent and adding a few jazz touches to it, I think Itzamna went the other way around: taking jazz compositions and peppering them with a little bit of djent and other metal spices. Saint André must be the harshest song on display on their EP, Metnal, but it still isn’t what you’d call “djent” in … Read more

Deux Pouilles En Cavale – Tambour Et Temps Morts

Experimental Frenchy rockers Deux Pouilles En Cavale serve us their second meal; after their eponymous breakfast LP and short lunch of an EP, here comes the dinner. With a fancy name like Tambour Et Temps Morts, or “Drum And Time-Outs” (it really sounds fancier in French but what doesn’t?), we are to expect a royal meal, and we, weird-music lovers, are truly served!

Darkaeon – Nihilism

Darkaeon are a heavy progressive metal act from Canada. They don’t feature really long song structures (yet?), but their compositional and technical skills are without question present on their debut album Nihilism.

The bassist pulls off flawless tapping sections, the guitarists too are spot on, and no note is badly picked. The drummer is tight and stays on the beat, while the singer sounds remarkably similar to his recorded version (even in … Read more

The doomy gloomy sub-bass metal band vod have begun work on their new album, Dark Souls, which will be a re-interpretation of the video game’s original soundtrack! That’s 29 songs, and more than an hour of material! There’s presently three songs uploaded on bandcamp in “demo” form, that means they will probably get re-mixed before the official release, as well as a teaser present on soundcloud:

You can pre-order the album now on their bandcamp page, until the release date set on January 1st, 2015.… Read more

Amia Venera Landscape has released a new song and video!

This is by far the heaviest release by the band! It has incorporated some elements of doom music, but kept their ambient soundscapes, probably even amped them up a little! There’s not much info else than this. Is this a single from an upcoming EP? Full-length? I don’t know, but I can wish!… Read more
