遺伝学者 – 芸者

The Music

The Words

Good can come from death. Some would argue that, indeed, djent is a dead genre. I’d have to admit that it has seen better days, but, every once in a while, some shiny thing rises through the ashes and comes to the surface. A miniature speck of jade in a dull grey pile. Today, this is thanks to Mexican quartet 遺伝学者 (Iden Gakusha) and their Japan-oriented EP, 芸者 (Geisha). I believe the band achieves something great with this twenty-minute EP; here’s why.

First of all, the foundation of djent—and metal—is the riffs. Fear not, the riffs … Read more

White Ward – Futility Report

mulating our opinion of an album before diving back into the endless sea of new releases. Sometimes, however, a confluence of factors generates a scenario in which one album stays in rotation for an extended stay before pen gets put to paper. White Ward‘s Futility Report is an album I’ve been trying to write about since January, when I heard its first publicly released song. Car Bomb – Meta Teaser

The crazy mathcore band that is Car Bomb recently began sending image and music files to their fans, but none showed the complete picture. Slice the Cake – Odyssey to the West [UNFINISHED]

They became more well-known with their 2012 album “The Man with No Face”, which raised the band to world fame in the spheres of progressive metal and metalcore, only reinforced by “Other Slices”.

With Odyssey to the West, the trio pushes even farther the boundaries of their own brand of music. Their musicianship and creativity is at their utmost, and is best portrayed on [NAME RELEVANT SONG FROM ODYSSEY THAT MATCHES DESCRIPTION]: a song of epic proportions both structurally and conceptually! They’ve built … Read more

Nylithia finally announce Hyperthrash!

After years of waiting – the album was first announced and teased in 2011 with the song Trainsaw – Hyperthrash now has an official track listing and release date: 21 November 2015. I’ll put the track listing below. There’s also a new song, “Razor”, to stream. However, in my opinion, it’s not as good as any of the others that the band already showed us: Trainsaw, Immersed in the Maniacal, Vein of Creation, and Hyperthrash, but it’s still a really good tune.

You can pre-order the album now on their bandcamp page, or wait patiently for the songs to stream … Read more
