Dissonant, noisy, filthy sludge that takes the life out of you, just what you need!

Number Four: Alkderdeel – Slonk

Slonk is perhaps the most blackened sludge out there, I mean, I might as well put it in the black metal category at this point! As a consequence, this album is remarkably relentless, bleak, and asphyxiating, and I love it.

Number Three: Gralaghorr – The Divine Spectacle of Rebirth

Disclaimer: we signed this album! But, if we didn’t think it’s great, we wouldn’t have done it, so, you know, it’s no surprise to see it on my AOTY list!
Experimental black metal drenched in 𝖘𝖑𝖚𝖉𝖌𝖊, with a ritualistic, psychedelic aura, and saxophone? Yeah, that checks all the boxes.

Number Two: The Body – I’ve Seen All I Need to See

The Body is a sure value. You know that everything they touch turns to irrecoverable ash and you sick fucks love to listen to that! Yeah, and with yet another album of theirs right around the corner, you could take this one as an appetizer.

Number One: Iron Pike – Hell Will Always Find Its Way Home

Perhaps not a name that you’ve seen elsewhere on other lists, and I am truly baffled as to why. Sweden’s Iron Pike have released, in my opinion, the most poignant, horrendous, fearsome, and toxic sludge of the year. Just… Listen to it!
