Jackie Frank Russell III made some waves, last year, with Outward Calm, Inward Chaos, his debut album. The Illinois composer comes back with I’m So Fucking Lonely.
The album takes a side step from its predecessor in that it’s much more heavily influenced by electronic music than it appeared in the previous one. Uglyglow is a beautifully strange amalgamation of math rock and electronic music. Their former penchant is closer to experimental math rock, such as Yowie and Doom Salad, for example, while their latter derives more from noise than dance music. Venetian Snares is a well-known Canadian electronic music experimenter; he’s been at it since at least 1997 with Fake:Impossible. Today, with his twenty-fourth full-length studio album (from what I can gather), Aaron Funk delivers a surprising blow to the unprepared listener. Indeed, She Began to Cry Tears of Blood Which Became Little Brick Houses When They Hit the Ground is an album most hectic that seems to be unable to keep a steady focus for more than a minute.
