Review: At War With Self – Circadian Rhythm Disorder

At War With Self is a progressive rock/jazz fusion endeavour with Marco Minnemann and Glenn Snelwar. At first, it makes me think of the Pitts Minnemann project’s 2L82B Normal, probably because Marco’s drumming is really a signature sound. There is a lot of work put into this album, and it truly pays off, for your listening pleasure

Marco Minnemann is widely regarded as one beast of a drummer, after all he was pretty much close second on Dream Theater’s drum auditions, and he’s participated in a vastitude of musical projects: Paul Gilbert, Necrophagist, The Aristocrats, and multiple other ones. Glenn … Read more

Review: ZIA – Drum’N’Space

[Click here to stream the album]

ZIA is, for the most part, a one-woman microtonal pop band, with Elaine Walker behind the wheel. Releasing albums since 1998 under the monicker ZIA, and experimenting since the very beginning with xenharmonic tunings, Drum’N’Space is the first all-microtonal album. On top of it all, this album is said to be only part of an epic space rock opera that is in the works! If that doesn’t scratch your weird music itch…

Drum’N’Space is written in multiple tunings. The first song is in 17 notes per octave (or EDO, for equal divisions of the … Read more

News: Third Ion will release metal-meets-chiptune album 13/8 Bit!

Mixing metal with chiptune, or retro-sounding synth sounds, isn’t something new, many bands or artists have done it on different levels, from C-Jeff to Haken, but a newcomer that seems to do it right is always a good news! The album will come out May 25th through Glasstone Records in physical format, and on Itunes for digital downloads.

Here are some other tunes from the album:

Review: Zelophilia – Lust, Loathing, & Love

You want crazy? You get crazy! First of all I think you have to know that zelophilia is when you are sexually aroused by jealousy. The more you know… They label themselves as a “so called ‘band'”, yes, the “so called” is part of their self-description, and they say of themselves that they sound like “a childishly simplified, watered down combination of Meshuggah, The Locust, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Daughters.” Which bears some truth. I’ve also read the term “avant-garde baroque” about them. What’s more, they even made a commercial for their debut album (see below)!

The album’s a mess … Read more

Review: Entheos – Primal EP

Probably the most awaited EP of early 2015. The quasi-reunion of Animosity, with a friend of ours, Chaney Crabb on vocals, and Frank Costa on guitars, Evan Brewer on bass, and Navene Koperweis on drums. So, let’s get our hands dirty and see what all the hype’s about.

First I gotta say that Chaney really cranked it up on vocals since the last time we heard her, in her band Systems. She was already a beast on Terrasomnium, now she’s a fucking Balrog (too bad VoM didn’t grab her)! And the other musicians really don’t disappoint either. … Read more
