What could be the result of anundetermined blend of six of Greece’s most skilled and  qualified musicians when they are put together in a band? Well, that can be easily summed up in three simple words and these are SEDUCE THE HEAVEN. This fairly new progressive metal band, has managed to built gradually a worthy reputation under its name by taking small but clever steps in order to establish their name in the (local) scene. In a time when female-fronted metal is almost a cliché, SEDUCE THE HEAVEN came as … Read more

Depth Beyond One’s – Monuments of Control (2012)

Listen to the EP while reading!

Terve!

From Oulu, Finland, comes this quintet playing their own brand of metal.

It’s discordant, polyrhythmic, and droning. The first third of the album, Monuments of Control, is a good song with nice riffs and beats all throughout.

The second song falls into a melancholic state of mind, with clean vocals and acoustic guitars. Although it would have been easy to fail at doing something good here, Depth Beyond One’s fail at failing this.

And finally the last part of the EP, An Order Depleted, features a good level of musicianship and some really … Read more

Unbodied – Unbodied (2012)

Listen to Unbodied while reading the review. I tell you it’s worth it!

From Ohio comes Unbodied, a progressive death sludge stoner grind metal band that will fuck your faces.

The concise self-titled debut album delivers five songs of the finest quality. From the otherworldly drumming to the oppressing and yet beautiful lyrics, this EP is one of the revelations of the year. Everything on this album amazes me. The guitar work is simply incredible, along with the song structure, and as I said, the drummer is a beast you don’t encounter every day. The vocals are also great and … Read more

Vanisher – Unbound (2012)

Listen to this while you read!

Okay, I know this album doesn’t showcase any harsh vocals, so you can call this fake and gay and not listen to it… but you’d miss on some true jewel, not that jewels are that manly, in fact they aren’t, at all… but Vanisher’s Unbound is truly beautiful, driving, and leaves a permanent mark in your mind. Like a real beautiful piece of jewelry.

Okay, I should be burned for using such a cliché.

Unbound will make emotions flow through your mind as if you lived them. Thanks to Justin Reich at vocals for … Read more

Cormorant – Dwellings (2011)

Listen to this while you read!

Cormorant’s third is the one! If you didn’t know Cormorant yet, their own blend of death/black/progressive metal, it is the time to, because Dwellings is one hell of an album!

Close to an hour of material goes on with this one!

And the artwork… Could you ask for a better artwork than this one? Seriously?

Mid-paced goodness, violence turning into contemplation, and some WTF moments. Dwellings feature great guitar playing and composition by Nick Cohon and Matt Solis. There are catchy riffs, soaring leads and solos. The bass is not too much hidden in … Read more
