Stream this over at bandcamp while you read here!!

If you didn’t already know Luke Jaeger (Sleep Terror), Vishal J Singh (Amogh Symphony, Robots Pulling Lever, and a ton of other projects), and Mark Hawkins (Robots Pulling Levers, and another ton of other projects), this is the time to.

While these guys have gathered recognition mostly in the metal scene for their technical abilities and proficiency, here they are jamming some funky tunes, my friends!

SoundAsleep – Phéromones

by Dæv Tremblay
[EDIT: Album released with cover art!!!]

Back in 2009, SoundAsleep gave us a little sample of what they were capable of with Midget Porn and Clockwork Surgery’s proggy goodness (read the review here). I wrote that it showed the great potential of the band.

The rest of the town’s windows would be shattered, pedestrians would be in shock, and nearby cars would be flying in the air.

Okay, now with the real shit. Murder Construct will totally rupture your eardrums. That is, if you decide to crank the volume up to … Read more

Depth Beyond One’s – Monuments of Control (2012)

by Dæv Tremblay

Listen to the EP while reading!

Terve!

From Oulu, Finland, comes this quintet playing their own brand of metal.

It’s discordant, polyrhythmic, and droning. The first third of the album, Monuments of Control, is a good song with nice riffs and beats all throughout.

The second song falls into a melancholic state of mind, with clean vocals and acoustic guitars. Although it would have been easy to fail at doing something good here, Depth Beyond One’s fail at failing this.

And finally the last part of the EP, An Order Depleted, features a good level of musicianship and some really … Read more
