Being a musical genius is hard. Not in the, “Oh, I’m a musical genius, I’m so oppressed, pity me” sense, but rather in the sense that one must live up to the expectations one has created. This is of course not a problem limited to the realm of music; all artists must ultimately struggle with it. If an artist has released material before, their new work is inevitably, and necessarily, put into a particular context. Frost* – Milliontown re-release

English Prog rock band Frost* has just re-released their debut album Milliontown on bandcamp with a few bonuses! If you’ve never checked this album out I highly suggest you grab it! Or at least listen to it first. This is a unique band that combines a high production pop sound with some awesome prog compositions. The band is currently working on their third album, and after that will be releasing a “big ol’ remixed, tweaked and remastered physical version” of Milliontown. Both of which I can’t wait for!

Check out their official website here and give them … Read more

Dream Theater – Dream Theater (Sept. 24th)

Today Dream Theater have announced that their new self-titled twelfth studio album will be released on September 24th!

Polkadot Cadaver – Last Call in Jonestown

Avant-garde metal outfit Polkadot Cadaver’s new album Last Call in Jonestown comes out on May 14th, and pre-orders are ending in just a few days. I discovered this band last year when I saw them at The Palladium, and their unique take on metal really intrigued me. Their lyrical content is often very offensive and off color, but completely awesome at the same time. This band really tries to make a statement by doing things in their music that most people would be afraid to do, and just not giving a shit. They also write some pretty catchy stuff and … Read more

Matt Stevens – Ghost

Matt Stevens’ 2010 album Ghost is an instrumental acoustic album featuring an interesting mix of odd melodies and catchy riffs. It took me a few listens to really get into it, but every time I go back to it I find it clicking a little more. Definitely check this out if you’re into progressive instrumentals and acoustic guitar.
