News: Terminus Est, a new extreme supergroup

Although we haven’t heard a single note from this new thing, we’ve got all the reasons to be excited. Three reasons, in fact: Hannes Grossmann (Obscura), Dominic Lapointe (Beyond Creation), and Edward Gryn (Despised Icon’s lights technician). Okay, that last one isn’t really a reason to get excited, we don’t know the guy and never heard it, but if he’s teamed with Hannes and Dominic, he must be mad skilled.

Like I said, there’s nothing to hear from them yet, but keep an eye on their facebook page, I bet they’ll share something pretty soon.… Read more

News: Australian supergroup Ḥashshāshīn demo Sati

The Middle-East-infused music of Ḥashshāshīn, comprised of members from Five Star Prison Cell, Squat Club, and Serious Beak is pretty interesting. The only song out, Sati, could be better, as it seems to be dragging on the same theme or atmosphere throughout while it could play a bit more with it and create more varied emotions. Well, there’s hope of that happening still, this is just a demo of one song, chances are it’s their first one and wanted to get the word around, so it might be the one where they’re just experimenting together and getting used… Read more

Review: M-Opus – 1975 Triptych

[Preview the album here]

Do you like 70’s prog rock? I have to agree that its flourishing of ideas is still to this day memorable and unmatched. First of all, I have to say that their singer, Jonathan Casey, toured and recorded with the David Cross band (ex-King Crimson) so that’s something to keep in mind!

The sound of the album is pretty … Read more

Out of the local Athenian suburbs, there surfaced a strange musical misform, named after a weird psychological phenomenon. With their audacious appearance PAREIDOLIA is certainly a noteworthy newcomer from Greece.

Self-proclaimed as an alternative/art rock band, they are approaching their craft with a touch of eclecticism. Aesthetically, they are fully embracing the art-rock tag with their experimental style (look no further than the song’s title for proof). Musically, experimentalism is still in hand but with a more direct nod to progressive rock. The band is citing its influences in the likes of Mike Patton, Steven Wilson and Chelsea Wolfe; judging … Read more

Review – Sir Cadian Rhythm EP

SCR EP CoverAt first I was intrigued by the name. I had read “Sir Canadian something”, and was really close to just shake shake shake it off as I unapologetically do quite often, but I actually took the extra effort of re-reading those three words correctly. Sir Cadian Rhythm, there we have it! A somewhat awkward pun that makes it sound like they needed a name asap and it’s the only thing they could come up with.

But I kept reading the promoter’s message which was so devoid of formatting that I had to scroll right quite a lot to finish … Read more
