Lee Wanner, the mastermind behind the impressive experimental metal band Rejectionary Art, has also quite a few solo albums in his sleeves! They are all very unique, and very, very interesting, so I will take them one by one and grace them with my reviewing powers […] Let’s start with his 2012 jazz fusion album Kids Today And Their Loud Jazz Music.
First of all I just want to applaud for the cover art. It’s genius! The saxophone, the bananas, the smirk on that face… hahaha! Seriously that is awesome! So… let’s press play, and wow (that’s unfortunately not a button)! Laura Vall’s voice is beautiful, soft with the guitars that back her, and quickly the quiet strings behind it all. This is only a glimpse of what’s to come, however. You don’t have to wait long before hearing Marco Minnemann’s signature drumming come into play, with Ric Fierabracci on bass. Marco is, as usual, flawless, and he easily blends into the style, producing beats that aren’t too far from what we could hear on “The Pitts Minnemann Project”‘s 2 L 8 2 B Normalalbum. Ric uses fretted bass most of the time, but with the special, orgasmic, sound of a fretless bass, but I suppose that’s a prerequisite for the genre of music here.
Lee Wanner on guitars, and gosh does he tear it all apart! First of all I just want to show his gorgeous guitar, behold:
Isn’t she beautiful? I’ll admit that guitar styles seldom unite everyone’s tastes, but this one is really unconventional, but all in the good ways! Personally, I love it! On to his playing, now! There’s nothing to say, really, it’s… perfect! He’s all over the place! Jazz chops everywhere! Seriously I don’t know what else to say, just listen for yourself (video below)!
The first song is pretty mellow, but things get crazier just with the second one. Laura’s vocal melodies are just insane in there – as well as everyone else’s work. It’s flawless!
I cannot recommend you to get this album enough, be you a usual jazzman, a metalhead or a musical weirdo, if you find musicians’ skills exalting, this album will put you in awe! Listen to Why Are They Doing This To Me? below, and get this album or , you won’t regret it!
I can’t wait to listen to the next one!
