Coheed and Cambria – The Afterman trailer

OH. MY. FUCKING. VOID.

What? God doesn’t exist!

If there is a band that I theoretically should not like, it’s Coheed and Cambria. Pop-rock with a tiny touch of prog. What’s more to hate than this?

But man, what drives me here is the story. In this case, it has gone by the name The Bag.On.Line Adventures, before eventually changing to The Amory Wars. And I’ve been buying every single comic that has been done by Claudio (lead singer and guitarist), and even the novel for The Year of the Black Rainbow.

I’ve been dying to know what would be done after their Amory Wars serie. Their first album, Second Stage Turbine Blade, is in fact the second act of the suite, continuing into In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, and Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV; Volume I: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness, and Volume II: No World for Tomorrow, before eventually finishing by the revelative first act, The Year of the Black Rainbow.

Now that the cycle is finished, fans of Co&Ca around the world have been wondering where we would be taken next. Of course, there has been Claudio’s side project, The Prize Fighter Inferno and its only album, My Brother’s Blood Machine, which tells the story from another point of view (Jesse’s). But, given the band’s name, how could we continue the story if the very world in which it takes place is no more (No World For Tomorrow, duhh…)?

There’s a hint of this in the video, and the title of the upcoming album: The Afterman. It seems in the video, that it is some kind of astronaut in a spaceship, with an artificial intelligence borrowed from his mother’s (or maybe he implanted his mother’s brain into the spaceship so she would not die), and talks to her via an eye reminiscent of HAL in 2001: Space Odyssey. She says “I’ll be there every step of the way”… Interesting. What is the purpose of this dude?

All we see after that is the guy (probably the Afterman), with his spacesuit on, going forward into the open airlock, probalby into space. But why? Where precisely is he going? Why is he going into space like this? What is there to do into space, outside his spaceship? Man, this brings more questions than answers.

That’s why I’m reaaaaaally hyped for this album. At the very end of the video, it says that Volume I will come out in October, and Volume II in February.

I. JUST. CAN’T. WAIT!!!

Oh, and there’s a really big “The Fountain” vibe at 0:58. And if you don’t know what is that movie, you just HAVE to go and watch it, and when you’ll see how awesome this movie is, you’ll BUY it!

The Afterman, coming October 2012 for Volume I. Will it be the after-Keywork? Will it be a totally new story? So many questions!!!
