First of all, we need to highlight the release of Any Way the Wind Carries, on April 1st (we’re late, we know), from Port Noir. It’s a very melodic and ultimately catchy, alternative-sounding progressive metal album. Very good if you wish to have something stuck in your head for the rest of the day. nulabee‘s New Sketch of Skyline is a very upbeat, funky electronic album. Future bass and chillwave go hand in hand, but when they are done so exquisitely, it’s heavenly!

Sylvaine‘s second release, Wistful, will be out tomorrow, May 13th. The album is mostly post-rock, but definitely has some more black metal moments, like in the song there. Overall, it’s pretty good so I recommend you check this out when the album is released on bandcamp! Light of a Different Sun is a technical melodic death metal album from Archaic Decapitator and will be released on June 7th. It’s a bit too standard to my taste, but it’s undeniably well-done and might please fans of the genre. Gutter Instinct will release Age of the Fanatics on May 27th.… Read more

Masiro – Technocologist Unknown

covertechnocologistIn 2013, experimental math rock then-duo Masiro impressed me a lot with their debut “EP”. It displayed the creativity of guitarist Chris Pethers and drummer Mike Bannard on four songs. The unconventional rhythms and dissonant choices of notes made for an interesting time. However, it felt a bit empty with the lack of a bass in the mix. Much to my surprise, the band released Technocologist Unkown, their debut album, on May first. Cinco de Mayo Edition. Unfortunately, no Mexican bands will be featured in this edition of one-sentence reviews.
Echo Spiral　エコースパイラル　is an American atmospheric djent band that really plays in the same park as Plini, Sithu Aye and David Maxim Micic. Dark Mirror is a short and sweet EP, at just over 10 minutes of carefully selected material. They put their talent on display in technical melodic riffs that maintain that feel good vibe that this part of the genre is known for, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be blast beat, does it?
